"It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try to readjust the way you thought of things."

After escaping the claws of Count Olaf, the Baudelaire orphans find themselves moving to a new home filled with reptiles of all sorts, deadly snakes and an amazing uncle who will take them to Peru with him to do some research, until some unexpected visitor arrives and, sadly, some more unfortunate events go about.

Here we are again, a new chapter for the orphans has begun and Lemony Snicket chooses to tell us that, as we warned us before, their fate is not improving that much and their newest home, one that will be all but final. In this book we meet Uncle Monty, an extravagant character that loves to study reptiles and clicks perfectly with all of the children, who are grateful to be in such a comfortable place after all they've gone through. That is why it is so completely grueling when we find out quite early on that he won't make it thanks to the treacherous actions of a man that calls himself 'Stefano', though the orphans know right away who he really is and try to warn everybody. As per usual, the adults in this story are useless and incompetent, and it is up to the children to find justice and unmask the evil man. However, let us remember, this will not end well for the Baudelaire children, as we've been warned.
I have a review for the last book, The Bad Beginning, in which I discuss much of the interesting bits of the books and the author, including the movie that was made from some of these books; you can read it from the link down below.
Still, Snicket charmed me with his writing and killed me a little bit, so I cannot wait to continue reading the rest of their adventures.
